Africa Access Water received support from the State of Israel through MashaV (Agency for
International Development Cooperation). This support went towards the Shibuyunji Women
project and was for solar powered irrigation systems, an aquaculture system and fencing of
the women community training farm. The project is an initiative of Africa Access Water,
working to transform rural agriculture through solar powered water systems. Program design
and operations for the joint program was done through a partnership of an Israeli company
Green2000 and NGO Tevel b'Tzedek.
The project handover ceremony was held on 11th March 2022 and was graced by Her Excellency
Ofra Farhi, Israel Ambassador to Zambia, Rabbi Micha Odenheimer (Tevel Founding Director)
Jonathan Bram, (Tevel Director), Mr. Sheleni, (Chilanga District Commissioner),
Representatives from Ministry of Water and Sanitation, Ministry of
AfAW and Tevel in Collaboration with Kafue District Agriculture Office are conducting various training in Climate Smart Agriculture including nutrition and the link between irrigation using alternative energy and community development. These training are also preparing the small-scale farmer for the seasonal rain fed farming. A total of 102 farmer have enrolled in these trainings.
AfAW as a member of the Zambia Climate Change Network (ZCCN) supports the African and Zambia’s position on Climate Change commitment at the COP27. Therefore, we are participating in the activities as set by the ZCCN. We have participated in the Climate Justice Touch Activities in October.
AfAW is a strong believer in collaboration and therefore supports efforts being done by Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) who are the pioneers and host of the EPD3. Africa Access Water (AfAW) Advocacy and Communication Manager, Temwa Gondwe with H.E Nicholas Woolley represented the organization at the event.
THE BIG REASON WE DO OUR WORK Clara Mulilanduba is 32 years of age and has four children. At the start of the project she told Africa Access Water (AfAW) that she wanted to take her children to school, have income to take care of her family and go back to school. On the 50mx50m provided to her by AfAW, she decided to plant carrots. She produced more than 1,000kgs and raised her income from zero to $900 in three months.
